GLENDALE, Ariz. Malik Jefferson Jersey . - Their post-season hopes all but gone, the Winnipeg Jets are content to play spoiler in the NHL Western Conference playoff race. Andrew Ladd scored in regulation and in the second round of the shootout, and Ondrej Pavelec stopped Antoine Vermettes attempt to send the Jets to a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night. Pavelec finished with 28 saves. The Coyotes dropped into a tie for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with the Dallas Stars, who blanked the Capitals 5-0. Dallas has a game in hand with seven to play. Ladds winning shot hit the post and went off Coyotes goalie Thomas Greiss leg and into the net. "Its a game of inches," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "Theres an extra point there youd certainly like to have, but it wasnt for lack of trying. It was a fast, hard, tight hockey game. They got a couple of bounces and we didnt." The Coyotes had chances. Jets wing Blake Wheeler was whistled for a high-sticking penalty with 1:15 left in overtime, but the Coyotes couldnt take advantage and the game went to a shootout. Ladd opened the scoring 10:01 into the first period, firing the puck past Greiss from inside the left faceoff circle. Ladd took a pass from Bryan Little and his wrist shot found the back of the net. Little extended his points streak to seven games. The Jets were coming off a frustrating 5-4 overtime loss at Anaheim the night before and wrapped up a five-game road trip in Arizona. "It was a mental grind for a lot of guys, but I think you look at the Anaheim game, we come up with that win, were looking at a 3-2 (road trip)," Ladd said. "So I think we learned a lot about ourselves this trip and it was nice to finish off this way." Jets coach Paul Maurice said Pavelec was the difference. "We knew it wasnt going to be pretty or textbook," Maurice said. Winnipegs 1-0 lead after the opening frame marked the first time the Coyotes had trailed on home ice after the first period since Jan. 20 against Toronto. The Coyotes evened it up 19 seconds into the second period when Zbynek Michalek scored on a close-range shot with Vermette and Mikkel Boedker assisting. "We played against a team that is below us in the standings," Michalek said. "In a shootout its pretty much about luck. We didnt get the point and weve got to move on." Both teams had good chances in the third period, but shots by Ladd and the Coyotes Shane Doan and Michalek were blocked or sailed over the net during the seventh minute. Boedkers shot with 9:50 left in the third hit the post and bounced away. Dustin Byfuglien misfired with 6:25 to play from right in front of the goal and Phoenix centre Kyle Chipchuras shot was saved by Pavelec with 4:30 left in regulation. "We really cant be worried about them," the Coyotes Keith Yandle said of the Stars. "Theyre a good team, theyre going to win games. We have to do our part and win games." NOTES: The fans in the crowd of 13,724 wore more Jets blue than Coyotes red. The Coyotes heard many "Lets Go Jets!" chants throughout the evening. . The Coyotes were without defenceman David Schlemko (lower body injury), right wing David Moss (ankle) and goalie Mike Smith (knee), who missed his fourth straight game though he is skating in practice. . The Jets were without goalie Al Montoya for a second straight game due to injury, so Pavelec got another start. . The Jets hadnt played at Jobing.com Arena since the Coyotes home opener in October of the 2011-2012 season. Cordy Glenn Jersey .Bacca took advantage of Cristian Alvarezs hesitation to head a lobbed pass over the goalkeeper and then used his feet to roll the ball into an empty net in the eighth minute. The Colombia strikers 10th goal pulled him level with Lionel Messi as the leagues third-leading scorers, far behind Cristiano Ronaldos runaway tally of 23 goals. Custom Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys . That assertion is getting harder and harder to make, especially given the way 23-year-old Danilo Gallinari has been playing this season. http://www.bengalsrookiestore.com/Bengals-Preston-Brown-Jersey/ . Off-Season Game Plan looks at a Wild team that has a nice mix of proven veterans along with young, inexpensive talent on the rise. When the Wild signed Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, making a big splash in the summer of 2012, it set the franchise on a path to being more competitive, but a big reason that they have been so competitive is the contributions of young players who still have more to give.ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Jared Spurgeon spent a month watching the Minnesota Wild from the press box. When he returned to action Tuesday night, he didnt waste any time making an impact. Spurgeon had two assists in his return from injury, Darcy Kuemper made 34 saves and the Wild defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1. One of Minnesotas top defencemen, Spurgeon was placed on injured reserve Jan. 4 after he hurt his left foot against Buffalo. While the Wild went 8-4-2 in his absence, they were eager to get him back in the lineup -- and he was eager to get back into the flow. "I think theres lots of adrenaline that helps you," Spurgeon said. "At the start I was a little nervous being off for a month, but they threw me right out there for the opening shift and that helped me really calm down and get my feet wet for that first one." Spurgeon got started early, setting up Nino Niederreiter for his fifth goal of the season 9 seconds into a power play in the first period. Early in the third, Spurgeon helped the Wild double their lead when he fed Dany Heatley in the slot for his 11th. Spurgeon ended up playing 21:12, third-most among Minnesota defencemen. "Hes taken really good care of himself while hes been out," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "To be able to come in and play at the level that he did tonight just shows you how smart of a player he is." The Lightning pulled within a goal with just more than 6 minutes to play when Valtteri Filppula tipped in Martin St. Louis pass at the goalmouth for his 20th of the season. Tampa Bay buzzed around the net the rest of the way, but Kuemper stopped Alex Killorn and St. Louis from in close, and Tyler Johnsons shot hit the post in the final 40 seconds. Lightning coach Jon Cooper was hoping to see a little more fire out of his club at the end of a 1-3 road trip. "I dont know how much courage we had going to the net tonight, until the end," Cooper said. "Hence, its shocking wherre our goal was scored, standing right in front of the net. Mark Walton Jersey. " While the Lightning are still clinging to second place in the Atlantic Division, goalie Ben Bishop said theyll welcome a return home for two games before the Olympic break. "I dont know if you want to say were tired, but its been a long road trip," Bishop said. "We dont want to make excuses, but weve got to be better." Bishop, who finished with 24 saves, was tested often throughout the first two periods, stopping Zach Parise on a breakaway with 5 minutes to play in the first period and stoning Mikael Granlund on a point-blank backhand early in the second. Bishop was shaken up midway through the second when Parise fired a slap shot that hit the goalie in the head, but he remained in the game. Meanwhile, Kuemper made a nifty glove save to stop Johnson on a breakaway late in the second and stood tall all night in his 11th straight start, a franchise record for rookie goalies. The Wild are 6-3-2 in that span, but Yeo was impressed with how Kuemper rebounded from his last two starts, a loss at Colorado in which he was pulled and an overtime defeat at Calgary. "How do you come back to the rink the next day and be mentally tough enough to come in and perform at the level that you need to? Thats what was very impressive about him tonight," Yeo said. "I liked his game an awful lot." While the Wild got Spurgeon back, they had another setback on the blue line 2 minutes into the game when defenceman Marco Scandella got tangled up with Johnson. Scandella skated off the ice with assistance, favouring his right leg, and did not return. Yeo labeled him "doubtful" for Minnesotas pre-Olympics finale Thursday against Nashville. NOTES: Filppula returned after missing Saturdays game at Montreal with a lower-body injury. ... St. Louis assist gave him 966 points, moving him past former Canadiens great Maurice Richard into 85th place on the NHLs career list.
